The Andalusian breed developed in Andalucia, Spain. They are one of the oldest of most Mediterranean breeds. The more common Andalusian chicken is the Blue Andalusian which is a cross breed between the black and white Andalusian. On our farm we only have the White and Black Andalusian chickens. Andalusian hens can weigh up to 5.5 lbs and are excellent layers of large white eggs. A very iconic way to pick an Andalusian chicken out of a group is to look for their white, smooth, and almond - shaped earlobes. This breed of chicken is a very active breed but is usually quieter that most other Mediterranean breeds. They are very hardy in the cold but can perform well in most climates. Andalusians also prefer free ranging and are very good foragers.
