This breed of chicken is one of the most famous and all time popular breeds of true American chickens. They were introduced in what we now know as the state of Rhode Island, hence where they got their name! They have outstanding production for laying brown eggs. No other heavy breed lays more or better eggs than the Rhode Island Reds! A female Rhode Island Red can weigh up to 6.5 lbs and keep their production quality of eggs up even in the colder months.
